After breakfast we took the Metro to the Louvre. Absolutely amazing building (1st pic)! Bigger than Versailles!
We saw the Venus di Milo (2nd pic), Though I still think of the Gummi Venus di Milo from the Simpsons. The Mona Lisa was clearly the most popular exhibit (4th pic), but we still managed to get a decent shot of the two of us in front of it (3rd pic).
After lunch, we walked through the sculpture courtyards (5th pic), which were pretty stunning. Great open space filled with stunning works of art. We then toured Napolean III apartments, which were impressively lavish.
We both really wanted to see the Ancient Egyptian exhibits, featuring hieroglyphs (6th pic), a cool statue of Horus (7th pic), and some cat lady type statues that I thought Rachel would like. All of that dates back to 1100-1300 BC (if I translated the dates correctly).
We did get a little lost in the Egyptian wing due to exhibit closures and my misinterpretation of the map, but we recovered and escaped back to the hotel to rest and regroup.
At dinner, we sat next to a couple from Santa Cruz who had just finished a 9 day river cruise through wine country starting in Nice. After dinner, we took in a movie. We both wanted to see Red 2, but it's a challenge at home, we haven't been to a movie in oh, I'd say roughly 19.5 months. Anyway, walking by the theater the other day we notices it was showing Version Originale, au Anglais with French subtitles, so we decided to take advantage of the situation. Good movie, lots of action and a little funnier than the first one.
Still struggling with jet lag. Definitely starting to look forward to returning home and seeing our little guy (though I hear he's been pretty happy eating ice cream all day with his grandparents).
